Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger) i.e. Moses, and did not accept his call, (whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip) therefore We punished him with a severe punishment, i.e. by drowning.
