[4:74] So let them fight in the way of God those who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter; and whoever fights in the way of God and is slain or conquers, We shall give him a great wage.
One who has not slain his lower self within himself, his jihad through himself is not sound. First, there must be the extraction of the danger of the soul from the heart, then the submission of the lower self to the fight.
We shall give him a great wage: It means Our remaining after him is better for him than his life through his lower self for his lower self. Their speaker said:
Are you not a compensation for me for myself?
It suffices as a rank and honor.
Beyond you there is no goal for me,
nor any object to be sought.
